21-hydroxylase deficiency is an inherited disorder that affects the adrenal glands. Three types of this disorder include the salt-wasting, simple virilizing, and non-classic types.


Signs and Symptoms
Signs and symptoms for the salt-wasting type include low hormone production, loss of sodium in urine, poor feeding, weight loss, dehydration, and vomiting. Females with the salt- wasting and simple virilizing forms typically have external genitalia that do not look clearly female or male.
